What Is Elbow Pain?

Because the elbow is involved in so many repetitive movements throughout the day, irritation in this area can quickly begin affecting work, exercise, hobbies, and overall quality of life.

In many cases, elbow pain is not always isolated to the joint itself. Tightness, weakness, or movement imbalances involving the wrist, shoulder, neck, or surrounding muscles can all contribute to stress on the elbow. That is why identifying the root cause is such an important part of the recovery process.

What are the symptoms of Elbow Pain?

Elbow pain can present differently depending on the underlying cause and the type of movement involved.

Common symptoms may include:

  • Pain when gripping or lifting objects
  • Discomfort while typing or using a mouse
  • Weakness during carrying or pulling movements
  • Pain when lifting a coffee mug or small household items
  • Tightness or tenderness around the elbow
  • Difficulty with repetitive hand or arm movements
  • Aching during workouts or exercise
  • Reduced grip strength or forearm fatigue

Many people also notice that elbow pain begins to limit work activities, gym routines, sports, or simple daily tasks they normally do without thinking.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing / Treating Elbow Pain?

At Myo-Fit Mobility & Therapy, we focus on identifying why your elbow pain is happening, not just treating the symptoms.

Our athletic trainers perform detailed evaluations looking at movement patterns, muscle tension, grip strength, posture, and surrounding areas above and below the elbow that may be contributing to irritation or overload.

Once we understand the root cause, we guide treatment using our three phase approach:

1. Soften

The first step is calming down irritated and unhealthy tissues while improving circulation and tissue quality.

To help accomplish this, we may use:

  • Dry needling
  • Scraping and instrument assisted soft tissue techniques
  • Hands on manual therapy
  • Trigger point release and mobility work

The goal is to reduce tension, improve blood flow, and create a healthier environment for healing and movement.

2. Lengthen

Once irritation begins to settle, we focus on restoring mobility and flexibility in the tissues that have become tight or shortened.

This phase may include stretching, mobility work, and movement based techniques designed to improve how the elbow, wrist, shoulder, and surrounding muscles work together.

3. Strengthen

As movement improves, we introduce strengthening exercises designed to improve grip strength, support healthy movement patterns, and reduce stress on the elbow during everyday activities.

The goal is to help make simple movements, like lifting a coffee mug or using your computer, feel easy and pain-free again while supporting long-term movement health.
