Understanding Golfer’s Elbow & Tennis Elbow

Many people develop elbow pain from repetitive gripping, lifting, pulling, typing, yard work, pickleball, workouts, or everyday activities that overload the muscles and tendons surrounding the elbow.

If your elbow hurts when picking things up, gripping objects, or using your arm throughout the day, it may be a sign that these tissues have become irritated or overworked.

Common Symptoms of Golfer’s and Tennis Elbow

Elbow pain can begin gradually or suddenly, depending on the activity causing irritation.

Common symptoms may include:

  • Pain when gripping or lifting objects
  • Tenderness around the inside or outside of the elbow
  • Tightness through the forearm
  • Pain while playing golf, tennis, or pickleball
  • Discomfort during yard work or repetitive hand use
  • Weakness when carrying or pulling
  • Aching while typing or using a mouse
  • Lingering soreness that never fully goes away

For many people, these symptoms eventually begin affecting work, workouts, hobbies, and simple daily activities.

Why A Proper Evaluation Matters

At Myo-Fit Mobility & Therapy, we focus on understanding why your elbow pain is happening, not just where it hurts.

While the discomfort may be felt in the elbow, the root cause may involve other areas such as the wrist, forearm, shoulder, posture, or movement patterns contributing to stress on the tissues.

That is why we begin with a thorough evaluation designed to uncover the underlying issue and help you better understand what is contributing to the pain.

Our “Soften, Lengthen, Strengthen” Approach

Once we identify the root cause, treatment is guided through our “Soften, Lengthen, Strengthen” philosophy.

Soften

The first step is calming down irritated or damaged tissues using techniques such as:

  • Dry needling
  • Scraping and soft tissue treatment
  • Hands on manual therapy
  • Cupping

These techniques help improve circulation, reduce tension, and create a healthier environment for healing.

Lengthen

Next, we focus on restoring flexibility and mobility in areas that have become tight or restricted.

For many people with golfer’s or tennis elbow, the forearm muscles are extremely tight and overloaded, which can continue pulling on the irritated tissues around the elbow.

Strengthen

As pain begins improving, we introduce strengthening exercises for the forearm, wrist, shoulder, and surrounding stabilizing muscles.

The goal is to improve movement efficiency, reduce stress on the elbow, and help prevent the issue from continuing to return.
