What Is Hip Pain?

The hip is a complex joint that moves in multiple directions and works closely with the lower back, pelvis, knees, and surrounding muscles. Because of that, hip pain does not always stay isolated to one area. Some people feel discomfort deep in the joint, while others experience symptoms that travel into the lower back, down the leg, or through the front of the thigh.

That is why understanding the root cause is such an important part of the recovery process.

What are the symptoms of Hip Pain?

Hip pain can present differently depending on the underlying cause and how the body is compensating during movement.

Common symptoms may include:

  • Aching or stiffness in the hip joint
  • Pain that travels down the leg
  • Discomfort in the lower back or pelvis
  • Tightness through the hips or surrounding muscles
  • Pain when sitting or standing for long periods
  • Difficulty walking, exercising, or changing positions
  • Reduced mobility or flexibility
  • Sharp or lingering discomfort during movement

Many people also notice that hip pain begins affecting their posture, exercise routine, sleep, and overall ability to stay active comfortably.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing / Treating Hip Pain?

At Myo-Fit Mobility & Therapy, we focus on identifying why your hip pain is happening, not just treating the symptoms.

Our athletic trainers perform detailed evaluations looking at hip mobility, posture, movement patterns, muscle activation, stability, and surrounding areas such as the lower back and pelvis that may be contributing to the issue.

Once we understand the root cause, we guide treatment using our three phase approach:

1. Soften

The first step is calming down irritated or unhealthy tissues while improving circulation and tissue quality.

To help accomplish this, we may use:

  • Dry needling
  • Cupping
  • Scraping and soft tissue techniques
  • Hands on manual therapy

The goal is to reduce tension, improve blood flow, and help create a healthier environment for movement and recovery.

2. Lengthen

Once tissues begin calming down, we focus on restoring mobility and flexibility in the areas that have become restricted or tight.

This phase may include stretching, mobility work, and movement based techniques designed to improve how the hips, pelvis, and surrounding muscles move together.

3. Strengthen

As movement improves, we introduce strengthening exercises designed to stabilize the hip joint, improve posture, and correct movement imbalances contributing to discomfort.

The goal is not just temporary relief, but helping you move better and stay active long term through improved strength, alignment, and movement quality.
